The slim, silver DMC-FX36 is an ideal camera to carry with you every day. The new camera has an astonishing 25mm mega wide-angle lensi - Panasonic's first-ever - which captures remarkable images with unprecedented width and depth. The 25mm lens lets you capture broad landscapes and architecture with ease. Intelligent Auto (iA) mode, which was introduced with the FX33, now offers Intelligent Exposure and Digital Red-eye correction for even better shooting results. With iA, you can capture exciting images as they happen, and the camera makes the settings for you.

Intelligent Scene Selector, which automatically selects the appropriate scene mode from the most frequently-used modes such as Portrait, Scenery, Macro, Night Scenery and Night Portrait.

Face Detection System, which helps the camera to focus, set auto exposure and detects up to 15 human faces, capturing them clearly and brightly.

Continuous Auto-focus, which allows faster response for spontaneous shots by minimising auto-focus time. The camera is constantly focusing, so there is no need to press the shutter button halfway before shooting.

Intelligent Exposure ensures that exposure is well balanced across a single image and detail maintained. For example, it will adjust aperture and shutter speed to prevent image wash-out in a bright area, while simultaneously brightening a dark area by changing the ISO sensitivity in the specific region of the camera's image sensor.

Digital Red-Eye Correction automatically corrects the red-eye effect caused by the use of the flash, via software in the camera.

Intelligent Image Stabilisation comprises two features - MEGA OIS, which helps compensate for the effects of hand-shake; and Intelligent ISO Control, which takes into account that the photo subject is moving and adjusts the ISO setting. Combining these two anti-blur features allows the camera to capture clear, crisp images.

High-quality Leica lens in a small, slim body The 25mm Leica DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens offers f/2.8 brightness and 4x optical zoom. This advanced lens unit comprises 7 elements in 6 groups, including 4 aspherical lenses with 6 aspherical surfaces. A newly developed unevenly thick concave meniscus EA (extra high refractive index aspherical) lens makes it possible to achieve 25mm mega wide-angle optics while keeping the lens unit thin and the body slim. Easy Zoom shifts the lens instantly to full 4x optical zoom power at a touch of a dedicated button, and with a second touch, the zoom ratio is further extended to 7.1x by activating 'Extra Optical Zoom'ii.

High-definition still and video All Lumix cameras can take 1920 x 1080 pixel HD (high-definition) photos that perfectly fit a wide-screen (16:9) HDTV for full-screen viewing. You can create slideshows with a variety of change effects and matching music.

The DMC-FX36 also records HD video in 1280 x 720p at a smooth 30 fps, in addition to WVGA (848 x 480) and VGA (640 x 480).

HD component output allows you to enjoy watching your footage by simply connecting the camera to an HDTV using an optional component cable (DMWHDC2).

• The new 'Venus Engine IV' image processing engine at the heart of the camera includes features for high-quality images and fast shooting. The LSI reduces image 'noise' that can result in poor resolution and suppresses colour bleeding, as well as enhancing the accuracy of Intelligent Image Stabilisation.
• Fast response time means that the shutter release time lag for the DMC-FX36 is as short as 0.005 second. This quick response makes it easier to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities. In 'high-speed burst' shooting mode, the camera can capture 6 shots per second, and 'burst' shooting mode allows 2.5 shots per second at full resolution. Unlimited consecutive shooting lets you keep shooting until the memory card is fulliii.
• The camera offers a large 230,000-pixel 2.5-inch LCD. 'Intelligent LCD' boosts the LCD backlight while shooting outdoors in bright sunshine, while 'High Angle' mode makes the LCD screen easy to view when the camera is held high, such as above a crowd.
• The camera offers long battery life, with up to 290 images on a single charge. 50MB of internal memory complements SD/SDHC card compatibility.
• A total of 21 scene modes help you to take excellent pictures in a wide range of situations. When creating photo albums, 'Title Edit' allows text to be input as additional information for the picture, for example, names of children, or travel locations. This information, as well as dates, can be stamped on photos with the Text Stamp function whether you print them yourself at home or at a photo kiosk.
• As a design improvement, the new camera incorporates a REC/Playback switch. This helps the photographer instantly switch between recording and playback modes, knowing which mode the camera is in. The GUI has also been enhanced in terms of design and colour while maintaining the visibility of characters.
