The 4-megapixel A420 has a 3.2 zoom
and 5-point AiAF auto focus

PowerShot A420 –
Ultimate ease of use and affordability with a 4.0 Megapixel CCD,
3.2x optical zoom (approx. 11x combined), 15 shooting modes, VGA
movies and 5-point AiAF auto focus.
This camera is equipped with an
approximately 4.0 million camera effective pixel Charge Coupled
Device (CCD), and with DIGIC II, higher resolution and high-speed
processing were achieved.
This camera is equipped with the 3.2x
optical zoom lens, which covers a 35mm film equivalent focal length
ranging from 39 mm (Wide Angle) to 125 mm (Telephoto) and f/2.8
(Wide Angle) - f/5.1 (Telephoto) aperture.
This camera is equipped with an
upgraded 1.8-inch Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and up to ISO 400 can
be selected in the shooting mode. The recording pixels now include a
"Widescreen" feature that has the same aspect ratio as 16:9
widescreen TVs for shooting wide images. This camera can take QVGA
(320 x 240 pixels) movies at 30 frames per second.
Super Macro in the "Manual" mode
allows you to shoot a subject when the distance from the front of
the lens to the subject is in the range of 1 to 5 cm (0.39 to 2.0
in.) ((PowerShot A410: 1.5 to 5 cm (0.59 to 2.0 in.)) when shooting.
By revising the operability of the
previous My Colors mode, Color Accent mode and Color Swap mode that
transform colors when shooting have been added to the shooting mode.
The My Colors and Photo Effect modes have been combined into the new
"My Colors" in the FUNC. menu and are used to change the look and
feel of the pictures when shooting.
This camera is equipped with a
"Print/Share" button. This button lets you easily print your images
by connecting the camera directly to a direct print compatible
printer. When the camera is connected to a computer (Windows®/Mac OS
X), pressing the Print/Share button lets you easily download images
directly from the camera to the computer. This camera also complies
with the PictBridge industry standard.
A new "Print Menu" including all the
menus for printing has improved camera operations for such functions
as direct printing.
This camera operates with two AA
batteries and an SD memory card or MultiMediaCard for the recording
media.
Software for transferring your
pictures to a computer, organizing pictures, laying out pictures for
printing and editing still pictures and movies is included with the
camera. This software is available for both the Windows and Mac OS
platforms.

Features for Canon Powershot A420

Effortlessly easy
The new PowerShot camera is designed to make it simple for
anyone to take great photos. The compact, lightweight bodies are
ergonomically shaped to fit comfortably in the hand, while
intuitively positioned buttons provide fingertip access to key
camera controls. The bright 1.8" LCD screens feature a selectable
Grid Line Display to help with shot composition and a Night Display
mode for easy visibility after dark.
The 9-point AiAF (5-point AiAF on the
PowerShot A420) focuses quickly and accurately on subjects even when
off-centre, to ensure consistently sharp images. An AF-assist Beam
helps with focusing in low light conditions. The PowerShot A420 also
feature a 1cm Super Macro mode for close-up focusing on tiny
subjects.
A wide range of shooting modes – 15
on the PowerShot A420 help deliver excellent results in almost any
situation. Preset Special Scene modes assist with picture taking in
tricky lighting conditions, including Indoor, Beach and Snow. For
creative experimentation, Color Accent and Color Swap modes enable
dramatic colour effects to be applied to images and movies direct
from the camera. Users can keep one colour and change the rest to
black and white with Color Accent, or exchange one colour for
another with Color Swap. The cameras also feature My Colors photo
effects for additional in-camera colour customisation.
A dedicated Movie mode enables
recording of high quality VGA movies of up to 3 minutes in length
with the PowerShot A420. A convenient Compact mode allows users to
create email-ready movie clips for sending to friends and family.
With widescreen televisions becoming
increasingly popular across Europe, Canon has incorporated a new
Widescreen stills setting in all three cameras. Users can capture
panoramic stills in 16:9 format for playback on widescreen
television or printing on wide size paper to a SELPHY Compact Photo
Printer.
Instant photo prints
The camera is PictBridge compliant for instant direct printing
to compatible printers. When combined with Canon SELPHY CP series
printers, the cameras make an economical digital photo solution with
10 x 15cm photos costing as little as 0.30 euro cents . Users can
also print ID photos and still images from movies when connected to
a SELPHY CP series printer. The handy Print/Share button on each
camera allows one-touch printing and hassle-free uploads to Windows
or Macintosh systems. A new dedicated Print menu makes it easier
than ever to access and organise print jobs direct from the camera.
The cameras’ menu systems now feature support for Arabic, bringing
the total number of supported languages to 23.
